Oilmen Host Lexington Seeking Sixth Straight Win

Oilmen Take Down Michigan City
Northwest Indiana wasted no time on Monday night at Michigan City, scoring five runs in the first and three more in the second to win their season-high fifth straight game, 9-1, before severe weather cut the game short on Monday.
Before the game was ended in the bottom of the fifth, the Oilmen offense was in firm control. Craig Austgen had his finest game of the season, going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Nick Bartolone went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Leiff Clarkson, Kenny Mahala and Jack Csezsewski all had two hits and two runs scored.
Andy Wellwerts (3-0) got his MCL-leading third win of the season, pitching four innings and only giving up one hit while striking out four batters. The lone run he surrendered came on four straight walks in the fourth inning. Danny Pobereyko finished the game off for NWI before the rains came and washed out the rest of the contest.
Home Sweet Home
The Oilmen will have a five-game homestand beginning with tonight’s game, their longest of the season. They will host Rockford, Lexington, DuPage County twice and the U.S. Military All-Stars in the long stretch at Oil City Stadium.
NWI is 9-1 at home this season.
First Place (And Then Some)
Not only are the Oilmen in first place in the MCL, they also have the best statistical offense (.312 batting average as a team) and pitching staff (2.64 team ERA) in the league.
