04/06/2012 1:48 PM - The Northwest Indiana Oilmen are finding talent all over the country and have gone to Minnesota to make their most recent transaction. The Oilmen are proud to announce that they have added outfield Nick Mar to their team for the upcoming season. Mar is a freshman at McCalister College in St. Paul, Minnesota and will play ball in the spring before joining the Oilmen this summer. If Mar duplicates the numbers that he put up in high school, then fans in both St. Paul and Whiting should enjoy watching this ballplayer play every day he is out there. Mar, who is a native of Sacramento, California, attended McClatchy High School in Sacramento and put up some pretty impressive numbers while playing there. In his most successful season at McClatchy, his senior year, Mar hit a remarkable .443 with 10 doubles, 37 RBIs, and 39 hits. Along with those impressive statistics, Mar has quite a resume of different accolades. At McClatchy, Mar was named to the First Team All-Conference three times, was named to ESPN Rise All-California third team, and was voted both McClatchy High School Baseball Player and Athlete of the Year. Mar was also named to the All-City team by the Sacramento Bee and earned MVP honors in the Sacramento Senior All-Star game in 2011. Oilmen fans will be treated to watching a bunch of talented baseball players this season and Mar is a great example of the talent that will be showcased this summer in Whiting. This offseason is shaping up to be a great one for the Oilmen and fans should be excited for their inaugural season in the Midwest Collegiate League.
