Oilmen send 10 to MCL All-Star Game

Whiting, Ind. – July 7, 2016 – The Northwest Indiana Oilmen will be well represented at the 2016 Midwest Collegiate League All-Star Game as they send 10 players to the annual midsummer showcase of the league’s top talent.

The game will take place at Oil City Stadium on Tuesday, July 12 at 7:20 p.m. Oilmen players will join the Bloomington Bobcats and Southland Vikings to comprise the MCL White All-Stars.

Infielder Tommy Szczasny (Northern Illinois / Tinley Park, Ill.) headlines the Oilmen All-Star selections. He leads the Oilmen in batting average at .377 and RBIs with 22. Szczasny has made an immediate splash in his first summer of college-level baseball as he enters his freshman year at Northern Illinois. His 22 RBIs rank third in the league. Szczasny holds an 11-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 17 of his 18 games this season.

Third baseman Stefano Belmonte (Florida Gulf Coast / Munster, Ind.) will make a second MCL All-Star Game appearance. He ranks second on the team in both batting average (.365) and RBIs (19).

Outfielder Tyler Sroczynski (Trinity Christian / Dyer, Ind.) has also secured a place in the MCL All-Star Game for the second straight year. He’s hitting .333 with two home runs, 11 RBIs and a team-leading 28 runs scored. Sroczynski also leads the team in stolen bases, as he’s been successful in 15-of-16 attempts.

Infielder Chase Dawson (Valparaiso / Chesterton, Ind.) is also among the large contingent of Oilmen to be named to the All-Star Game. He’s hitting .360 with eight RBIs and 21 runs scored in 19 games with the Oilmen. He also boasts a .478 on-base percentage.

Catcher Zack Forney (Eastern Illinois / Cary, Ill.) has been selected for Tuesday’s game. He has seven multi-hit games and is hitting .323 this summer.

The MCL White All-Stars pitching staff will feature lefty Hunter Clark (Eastern Illinois / Granger, Ill.), who hasn’t allowed an earned run in 17 1/3 innings of work this summer. Clark is 1-0 with two saves over 11 games. He’s issued 12 walks and struck out 14. Both runs that have crossed the dish against him this season were unearned.

Clay Keltner (Cornerstone / Highland, Ind.) has also notched an MCL All-Star appearance by virtue of his 1.30 ERA in 34 2/3 innings to lead the Oilmen starting staff. He has walked 10 and struck out 25 over six starts.

After a strong summer as a position player with the Oilmen in 2015, Sam Geraci (Illinois Springfield / Steger, Ill.) has transitioned his success to the mound. He’s an All-Star with a 1.33 ERA and 3-0 record in 20 1/3 innings.

Incoming freshman Braden Niksich (Illinois State / Hobart, Ind.) is a member of the MCL All-Star team. He has put together a strong season out of the Oilmen bullpen and holds a 1.50 ERA in 12 innings.

Max Siedlecki (New Mexico Highland / Evanston, Ill.) is also a part of the MCL All-Star Game. He earned his spot by compiling a 2.73 ERA and 2-1 record in six starts totaling 33 innings. Siedlecki has walked 15 and racked up 20 strikeouts.

Oilmen manager Adam Enright will be on the coaching staff for the White All-Stars, who will be managed by former Lexington Snipes skipper Billy DuBois. Tickets for Tuesday’s All-Star Game are available now on NWIOilmen.com.
