Home Opener Bodes Well for Oilmen

06/07/2023 10:35 PM -

Oil City Stadium's home opener against the Elkhart County Miracle was another high- scoring affair for the Northwest Indiana Oilmen. The Oilmen continue to find their rhythm on offense, totaling 15 runs in what was a chilly evening in Whiting, Ind.

The star of  Wednesday's game was none other than Amir Wright, making his season debut, going 3-for-4 at the plate and driving in two runs. Wright was the leadoff man in the Oilmen's lineup, reaching base in every plate appearance.

After the Miracle cut it to a 4-3 game in the fourth inning, the Oilmen scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth, and won the game 15-5. In two matchups against the Miracle this year, the Oilmen have outscored Elkhart County 29-3.

“There's a lot of talent, there's a lot of balance in our offense,” Oilmen manager Adam Enright said. “We can swing for extra base hits, we can steal bases and there's a lot of experience in our lineup as far as guys who have played quite a bit. It's a very enjoyable situation when your hitters understand the game.”

Starting pitcher Tyler Laux picked up his first start of the season, and his first  pitching through three innings. In the fourth inning, Jack West came into relief and was dominant, giving up just three hits in four innings and striking out seven batters.

The offense for the Oilmen included a number of impressive stat lines, including Randy Seymour, the Michigan State Spartan, who went 2-for-2 at the plate, including a triple and two walks.

With Wednesday's win over the Miracle, the Oilmen improved to 3-3  and will face the Lake County Corn Dogs on Thursday night. All three of the Oilmen losses have been to Lake County, with a chance of revenge on Thursday night's platter.

“It’s the day of the week that we have circled to line things up and put our best efforts together,”, Enright said.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. at Oil City Stadium on Thursday in Whiting, Ind.
