Whiting, Ind. – May 14, 2014 – The Northwest Indiana Oilmen have released a special events schedule that is sure to create a buzz in Whiting this summer.  In addition to bringing back events that have become annual fan favorites, the Oilmen will debut several new promotional nights.

The Oilmen will open the 2014 season on Tuesday, May 27 as the defending Midwest Collegiate League champion Southland Vikings visit Oil City Stadium.   All opening-night tickets will be $8 with half of the revenue going to the Whiting High School Science Olympiad to help pay for the students’ trip to nationals.

The Oilmen will participate in Strikeout ALS Night during the June 12 game against the Vikings.  This event commemorates the 75-year anniversary of New York Yankees legend Lou Gehrig retiring from baseball due to ALS.

Fans who dress up as their favorite super hero will be admitted to the Saturday, June 14 game free of charge.  The Oilmen will help raise funds for the Nathan Hale Elementary education fund as part of Green Day on Thursday, June 17.

Celebrate Hispanic heritage with traditional music and dancing during the team’s first-ever Latin Night on Saturday, July 12.  Another team-first will take place on Wednesday, July 23 when the ZOOperstars provide fun sports entertainment on Fan Appreciation Night.

Other special dates on the Oilmen calendar include Paint the Game Pink in support of breast cancer awareness (May 28), Bark in the Park Night (June 21), Oilman Stan’s Birthday Bash (June 6), and a Barbeque & Baseball Fourth of July Celebration.

Fathers will be allowed to play catch with their children following the game on Father’s Day.

The MCL All-Star Game will return to Whiting on July 9, while the U.S. Military All-Stars will play their third annual exhibition with the Oilmen on July 1.  This year’s U.S. Military game will feature an appearance from the Human Cannonball.
