Offense Helps Oilmen Surge Past Michigan City
Leiff Clarkson went 4-for-5 and led six Oilmen with multiple hits as Northwest Indiana came back from an early 3-0 deficit to throttle the Michigan City Lakers 10-3 on Father’s Day at Oil City Stadium.
Michigan City plated all three of their runs on four hits in the second, including a two-run home run by Lou Grounds. But the Lakers would manage just three more baserunners the rest of the game, and the Oilmen piled on the runs in the middle innings.
Andy Wellwerts (2-0) pitched six innings and earned the win for NWI, the team’s seventh win in their last eight games. Tyler Baar continued his recent run of success with a 3-for-4 performance that included three RBI, while Nick Bartolone had three hits. Anthony Bova also went 2-for-2 with two RBI in the decisive exhibition victory.
Red-Hot Rashawn
Rashawn Tillman has been a key catalyst at the top of the order for NWI. The Arkansas-Pine Bluff outfielder is currently leading the MCL in hitting with a .417 batting average. He also leads the league with a whopping .575 on-base percentage, and is second in the MCL in both walks and runs scored.
NWI catcher Tyler Baar now leads the MCL in RBI with 10 after going 0-19 to start the season through the first seven games of the year.
Still Streaking
The Oilmen have now won a season-high four games in a row, amassing 67 hits and outscoring their opponents 43-5 in that span.
