Oilmen Can’t Hold On At Southland
NWI jumped out to a 3-0 lead, and then a 7-4 lead, but the Vikings bats proved too much for the Oilmen in an eventual 10-7 loss, snapping the road team’s four-game winning streak.
Tyler Baar had two RBI and went 1-for-3 in the contest, while Joe Houlihan went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, but the red-hot Oilmen bats were silenced in the final four frames of the game, which was played through a rain shower in the sixth and seventh innings.
The Oilmen drew 11 walks in the game, including two each by Jack Czeszewski, Gerrad Rohan and Baar, but were held off the scoreboard by the bullpen of the Vikings.
The Oilmen will seek revenge on the Vikings tonight at Oil City Stadium, in the last game the two teams will play against each other until July 6.
MCL Standings Watch
With the loss, the Oilmen momentarily fell out of a tie for first place with the Lexington Snipes, who were off yesterday. NWI now sits a half-game behind Lexington. DuPage County, which topped Chicago last night, also sits a half-game ahead of the Oilmen, as the Hounds and Snipes are now in a virtual tie for first. All six MCL teams are in action tonight. The Oilmen face the Snipes for two straight games at Oil City Stadium on Wednesday and Thursday
After getting two more RBI last night against the Vikings, NWI catcher Tyler Baar now leads the MCL in RBI with 12 after going 0-19 to start the season through the first seven games of the year.
