Oilmen Begin Announcing Position Players

Whiting, Ind. – May 7, 2021 – The Northwest Indiana Oilmen began the process of announcing the position players who will comprise the team’s 2021 roster on Friday by revealing six outfielders and catchers.

The team will feature outfielders Nick Anderson (Arkansas Fort Smith / Highland, Ind.), Zamaurion Hatcher (Michigan / Chicago, Ill.), Colin Bruce (Black Hawk CC) and Jacob Ferry (Morehead State / Aurora, Ill.). In addition, the club has announced the signing of catcher/outfielder Johnny Hernandez (Black Hawk CC) and catcher/infielder/outfielder Christian Williams (Michigan State / Carmel, Ind.).

Anderson returns to the Oilmen after earning a place on the 2020 Midwest Collegiate League All-League Team after hitting .340 with 22 RBIs, 25 runs scored and a .434 on-base percentage in 27 games last summer. A 2019 MCL All-Star, Anderson spent his first summer in the league with the Crestwood Panthers and hit .254 with a .417 OBP while launching a home run, driving in 15 runs and scoring 33 times. The Highland High School product started his collegiate career at Kankakee CC before joining Arkansas Fort Smith this season. He has appeared in nine games and made five starts for the Lions.

A high school senior at Kenwood, Hatcher will acclimate to the college game while playing for the Oilmen before making his way to the University of Michigan to compete in the Big Ten Conference. A left-handed hitting outfielder, Hatcher has played in the Chicago White Sox ACE program.

A product of Benet High School, Bruce is a right-handed hitting outfielder who is in his first year in the collegiate ranks at Black Hawk CC. His college teammate Hernandez is an alum of Plainfield South and also graduated high school in 2020.

Ferry is a freshman at Morehead State in the Division-I Ohio Valley Conference. He has received significant playing time for the Eagles and owns a .293 batting average in 34 games including 22 starts. Ferry has crushed seven home runs, driven in 15 runs and scored 15 times. The Oswego East High School graduate is college teammates with former Oilmen pitcher Joe Rotkis.

Williams is a freshman at Michigan State, where he is teammates with former Oilmen outfielder Zaid Walker. He is a product of Carmel High School in Carmel, Ind.

The Oilmen announced 15 pitchers earlier this week and will continue to add to the roster in the coming days.
