NWI Comes Back Again To Sink Lakers
The Oilmen went on the road on Monday for the first of three straight scheduled road games to play Michigan City, and rallied from two runs down in the eighth to win by a final of 3-2 at Diamond Cove Park.
The Lakers struck for two early runs, and Michigan City starter Kyle Marburger held the Oilmen off the board for the first seven frames. But NWI finally broke through in the eighth, when with two outs, Leiff Clarkson tied the game on a full-count pitch, smacking a two-run single to center field, scoring Craig Austgen and Anthony Bova.
In the ninth, the Oilmen took advantage of a big miscue in the field, as Kenny Mahala, who led off the frame with a walk against reliever Tim Newman, scored on an error by Anthony Olund at second trying to turn a double play.
Matt Pobereyko then closed the door for his second save of the summer. Aveeno Nasiloski (1-0) got the win in relief, the team’s third straight on the road.
NWI had 10 players selected to play in Tuesday’s 2013 MCL All-Star Game at Oil City Stadium. Jimmy McNamara, Michael Steensen, Danny and Matt Pobereyko, Aveeno Nasiloski, Ty Hogan, Gerrad Rohan, Jack Czeszewski, Leiff Clarkson and Nick Bartolone will all play, while Justin Huisman will manage the North squad. The game will be called by Oilmen broadcasters Jason Guerette and Jonas Nordman on nwioilmen.com and AM 1230 WJOB as well.
