Oilmen Remain Undefeated in Month of June

06/10/2023 10:39 PM -

After Friday night's walk off win against the Indiana Panthers, the Oilmen followed it up with another home victory. Since the 0-3 start against the Lake County Corn Dogs, the Oilmen have now won six straight, remaining undefeated in the month of June.

The highlight of Saturday's 9-1 win was a dominant pitching performance from Joey Turek, paired with yet another consistent game at the plate. Turek threw the most innings by an Oilmen pitcher this year with six, striking out six batters while not allowing an earned run.

“He commands the fast ball and has lots of arm-side run on the fastball,” Oilmen manager Adam Enright said. “His slider plays well off  that because it looks just like a fast ball coming out of his hands, so he's a really tough at-bat for lefties and righties.”

The black and gold totaled 13 hits, including four players posting multi-hit games. Emanuel Scott and Kevin Denty were the most productive, both going 3-for-4 at the plate. Denty, an incoming freshman at Valparaiso University, currently leads the league in batting average, with a .471 average.

“I think it was a normal approach and we got the same type of production from our guys, and we took those singles to string together and score some runs,” manager Adam Enright said.

The Oilmen improved to 6-3 on the year, placing themselves at the second spot in the Northern League standings, behind the Lake County Corn Dogs.

The Oilmen have a two- day break before they play 13 straight games, starting Tuesday, June 13 against the Southland Vikings at 7:10 p.m.
