Oilmen split double header with Miracle

Whiting, Ind. – July 2, 2023 – On a rainy afternoon at the Field of Dreams in Nappanee, Ind. the Northwest Indiana Oilmen rallied to split the double header against the Elkhart County Miracle

The Oilmen won game two 8-6 with strong pitching after dropping game one 5-2. Aaron Buckholtz started game two. He went five innings, striking out three and allowing four runs. Logan Anderson and Randy Seymour finished the second game. Anderson pitched one inning and struck out one. Seymour pitched one inning and struck out one while allowing two runs. Brandon Laux started game one. He pitched five and two-thirds’ 5 2/3 innings while allowing five runs and striking out three.

“First inning was a little bit shaky but once (Buckholtz) got control of two pitches, he pitched well,” manager Adam Enright said. “Once he kept the innings moving a little better, he looked really good.”

Chris Suchoski hit a three-run home run to give the Oilmen the lead early in the second game. Nick Daugherty had a strong performance in game two going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Suchuski played well in game one, going 2-for-2 and scoring two runs. Jayden Comia and Kevin Denty also went 1-for-2 in game one. 

“What (Suchoski) is getting better at is making adjustments from pitch to pitch,” Enright said. “He’s starting to recognize good and bad takes, good and bad swings, and adjusting in- game much better.”

The Oilmen improve to 19-8 after a split in the double header. The Oilmen still stand a top the Northern League despite dropping one of two games against the Miracle. The Oilmen will look for win 20 against the Griffith Generals at Brian Jennings Field in Griffith, Ind. on Monday. First pitch will be at 7:10 pm.
