Whiting, Ind. – July 10, 2023 – On a warm afternoon in Whiting, Ind. the Northwest Indiana Oilmen battled the Griffith Generals up until the last out. The Oilmen fell to the Generals 5-1 on Monday evening.

Antonio Saldana started the game for the Oilmen and struggled to find the strike zone after a strong first inning. Despite sitting down General bats in order to start the game Saldana walked three batters and hit three as well. He would also give up three runs in three innings. RJ Bergren would pitch in relief in the fourth inning. Bergren would pitch five innings, walking four and allowing two runs. Connor Collins finished the game for the Oilmen allowing no hits or runs in his one inning of work.

“Wasn’t the cleanest of games, especially near the beginning of the game,” Assistant Coach Joe Marras said. “They only had five its and scored five runs, a lot of stuff was given to them and it just wasn’t a very clean ball game.”

While the Oilmen struggled to find hitting, Randy Seymour had a strong day at the plate. Seymour went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI on the day. The Oilmen struggled to put runs on the board all game long. Oilmen bats stranded 15 batters on bags, multiple of which were in bases-loaded situations. However, the Oilmen were composed at the plate as Brenden Stressler and Colin Schmitke would record two walks. The team would record seven walks in the game.

“Randy’s been swinging the bat really well the last couple of weeks,” Marras said. “The team just had a lot of easy outs today, just not a very challenging day for the other side on defense.”

The Oilmen fall to 21-11 after a hard-fought loss to the Generals. The Oilmen travel to Legacy Fields in Crown Point, Ind to face the Lake County Corn Dogs Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 7:00 pm
