Oilmen Send 10 to 2023 Northern League All-Star Game

07/11/2023 8:14 AM -

Chicago, Ill. – July 11, 2023 – The Northern League has announced that 10 members of the Northwest Indiana Oilmen have been named to the league’s annual midsummer All-Star Game, which will take place on Tuesday, July 18 at 7:10 p.m. at Oil City Stadium in Whiting.

A quartet of pitchers – Steve Washilewski (Ball State[Kansas]/ Dyer, Ind.), Brandon Laux (Florida Southern / Frankfort, Ill.), Tyler Laux (Prairie View A&M / Chicago, Ill.) and Joey Turek (St. Ambrose / Woodridge, Ill.) will represent NWI in the contest. In addition, a half a dozen Oilmen position players have been named to the Northern League West squad – outfielder Nick Daugherty (Maryville/Chicago, Ill.), outfielder Kevin Denty (Valparaiso/Tinley Park, Ill.), infielder Randy Seymour (Michigan State/Frankfort, Ill.), infielder Graham Mastros (Saint Louis/Northfield, Ill.), infielder Jayden Comia (Illinois/Orland Park, Ill.) and infielder Logan Anderson (GVSU[Marshall])/Frankfort, Ill.).

The four Oilmen All-Star pitchers are the top four hurlers in the league in terms of earned run average. Turek leads the way at 1.91, followed by Brandon Laux (2.30), Tyler Laux (2.57) and Washilewski (2.67). Washilewski ranks fourth in the league in strikeouts with a team-high 34 followed by Turek, who ranks fifth in the NL with 33. Washilewski’s three wins are tied for the third most in the league.

Seymour paces the league in batting average at .360, while Denty is also in the top five at .325 (fourth). Seymour is tied for fourth in RBIs with 17, while Comia and Anderson are tied for third in home runs with three. Mastros doesn’t have enough at-bats to appear on the league leaderboard, otherwise his batting average of .327 would rank in the top five. Daugherty is also putting together a stellar year by hitting .310 with 15 runs driven in. Denty sits atop the league in on-base percentage at .514.

The home team for the game will be the Northern League West All-Stars, comprised of players from the Northwest Indiana Oilmen, Indiana Panthers and Southland Vikings. The West All-Stars will be managed by Northwest Indiana Oilmen skipper Adam Enright.

The visiting team for the game will be the Northern League East All-Stars, which will be comprised of players from the Lake County Corn Dogs, Elkhart County Miracle and Griffith Generals. The East will be led by Justin Huisman, manager of the Lake County Corn Dogs.

Tickets are available now on NWIOilmen.com. For those who cannot attend, the game will be broadcast on the Oilmen Broadcasting Network via JED-TV, AM 1230 WJOB, Region Sports and Facebook Live. Longtime Oilmen play-by-play broadcaster Brandon Vickrey will call the All-Star Game for the eighth time and will be joined by former Griffith High School baseball coach and longtime Northwest Indiana broadcaster Brian Jennings for the second straight season.
