Whiting, Ind. – July 12, 2023 – On a cloudy afternoon in Nappanee, Ind. both the Northwest Indiana Oilmen’s offense and pitching started to click. The Oilmen came away with a 7-2 win over the Elkhart County Miracle, Wednesday afternoon.

Joey Turek showed why he is one of the more reliable arms for the Oilmen. Turek threw a complete game while only conceding two runs. Not only did he throw a complete game, but he also struck out nine while not walking a batter. Turek became just the second player to throw a complete game for the Oilmen this season.

“Turek is just a strike zone pounding machine and his off-speed gets a lot of swings and misses,” Manager Adam Enright said “It’s always nice when he’s out there pitching you know you’re probably going to play a pretty quick game.”

Oilmen bats helped to give Turek a lead to work with early. Randy Seymour opened up the ball game with a two-run home run to left field. Seymour went 1-for-4 on the day. Nick Daugherty added to the scoring after a two-run home run hit to left field as well. Daugherty launched his first home run of the season in a key spot for the Oilmen. He extended the Oilmen’s lead from three runs to five and shut the door on a possible Miracle comeback.

“We got good pitches to hit and weren’t fouling them off,” Enright said. “We were getting ahead in counts and working to get to situations where we are going to get a good pitch to hit,”

The Oilmen improve to 22-12 after the win over the Miracle. The Oilmen return to Oil City Stadium in Whiting, Ind. Thursday night to face the Griffith Generals. First pitch is set for 7:10 pm.
