Oilmen baseball returns to AM 1230 WJOB Whiting, Ind. – May 25, 2015 – The Voice of the Region and the region’s collegiate summer baseball team will join forces again this summer. The Northwest Indiana Oilmen have announced that Oilmen baseball can be heard on AM 1230 WJOB this season. This marks the fourth consecutive year that WJOB will serve as the official radio home of the Oilmen. The radio partnership gives Oilmen fans the opportunity to hear games boom through the Region behind the strength of WJOB’s signal, while it also helps the station serve its listeners with local sports programming. “It’s a goal of WJOB 1230 to give our listeners sports programming for the entire year,” Sports Director Ryan Walsh said. “We’ve been known around the region for our professional, collegiate and high school sports coverage that takes place from the fall to the spring. Having NWI Oilmen baseball accomplishes the radio station’s goal of sports programming all year.” The team’s commitment to recruiting local players also contributes to the importance of Oilmen baseball to WJOB listeners. “Oilmen baseball also gives a local flavor to our listeners,” Walsh said. “Almost the entire roster of Oilmen players and staff are from right here, the region.” A total of 34 Oilmen games are scheduled to air on WJOB this season. Brandon Vickrey is back for his fourth year with the team and his second season as the primary play-by-play broadcaster. This year, Tommy Mantice will provide color commentary on the Oilmen Radio Network. The Oilmen open the 2015 regular season on Sunday, May 31 at 1 p.m. in Joliet. The game can be heard on AM 1230 WJOB, with online streaming available on wjob1230.com and NWIOilmen.com.
