Northwest Indiana Oilmen Commit Six Errors in Fourth Straight Loss

The Indiana Oilmen (14-7) surrendered the top spot in the MCL South Division with a 14-13 loss, their fourth straight, against the red hot Will County Crackerjacks (14-6).

The Oilmen didn’t help their cause, committing six errors, with five coming in the second inning enabling seven unearned runs. Will County added three more runs in the third on a three run blast by Michael Villardo, putting the Oilmen down 10-3 early.

All season the Oilmen have made some remarkable comebacks.  It looked as though they would remain true to form as the offense put up five runs in the sixth on a grand slam by Brandon Krieg, the first ever Oilmen homerun at Oil City Stadium. Three batters later, John Livingston followed with a solo shot over the 25 foot wall in left field, tying the game 10-10.

Oilmen Nik Mason came on in the fifth, pitching four scoreless innings in relief for Kale Popp. Mason struggled in the ninth with a 13-10 lead, giving up three runs. Jim Hinklemen tried to stop Will County, but gave up a run, suffering his second loss of the season.

On Thursday, June 28th, the Northwest Indiana Oilmen try to end their four game skid against the DeKalb County Liners (12-8).  Every Thursday night at Oil City Stadium is Thirsty Thursday, where all drinks are half price. On Sunday July 1st, the Oilmen host the U.S. Military All-Stars. The barnstorming "Red, White & Blue Tour" features the only "joint" armed forces and first responders team competing in both baseball and softball. Gates open at 4:30 PM, with the first pitch at 6:10 PM.
