Oilmen Look to Rebound in Home Opener Thursday

WHITING, Ind. -- The Northwest Indiana Oilmen will look to bounce back as the Oilmen host the Southland Vikings for Opening Night at Oil City Stadium;

The Vikings (6-1-1) will take on the Oilmen (5-5) at Oil City Stadium in Whiting, Ind. starting at 7:10 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Northwest Indiana Oilmen are coming off a 9-6 loss to the Crestwood Panthers on June 7. Caleb Matthews (Greenwood, Ind./
Kanakee CC) made his Oilmen debut in the start. Matthews went three scoreless innings, scattering two hits, issuing one walk and striking out three. Rory Gard (Schererville, Ind./St. Joseph’s/Trinity Christian)
came in and pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

SCOUTING THE VIKINGS
The Southland Vikings are winners of four in a row after defeating the Joliet Admirals, 5-4. Vikings starter Chase Pearce picked up the win after going 8.1 innings, allowing four runs, scattering five hits and striking out five. Jack Gainer went 3-5 with two RBI. Trey Polewski also went 3-5.

SERIES HISTORY
The Oilmen lead the all-time series, 26-24 against the Southland Vikings. Southland won the last two meetings in a doubleheader sweep on June 3, where the Vikings won Game 1, 7-1, and won Game 2, 4-3.
