07/25/2017 6:40 AM -

WHITING -- The Northwest Indiana Oilmen will look to jump into first place as NWI hosts the first place DuPage County Hounds Tuesday.

The Hounds (31-14) take on the Oilmen (30-14) at Oil City Stadium starting at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday.

WHAT TO KNOW
The DuPage County Hounds currently stand in first place in the Midwest Collegiate League heading into the final week of the MCL Regular Season, but the Northwest Indiana Oilmen are right on their tail as NWI is a half game behind the Hounds. DuPage County has five games left to play including tonight while the Oilmen have six. If NWI and DuPage County end up tied, the tiebreaker would go to the Oilmen due to NWI winning the season series.

Tyler Sroczynski (Dyer, Ind./Trinity Christian) led the Oilmen at the plate, after going 4-5, with four RBI and five runs scored. Chris Baker (South Holland, Ill./South Suburban) and Blake Cleveland (Nappannee, Ind./Central Michigan) each racked up three hits for the Oilmen, while Jackson Dvorak (New Lenox, Ill./South Suburban) picked up two hits.  Daniel Torres (South Bend, Ind./Saint Leo) drove in four runs all in the victory on July 23.

Starter Blake Marks (Gardner, Ill./Lewis) went four strong innings, not allowing a run, issuing a walk and striking out three. Matt Garbacz (Villa Park, Ill./Roosevelt) picked up the victory in relief for NWI, going four innings, allowing only one earned run, scattering three hits and striking out six.  Will Kulcher (Crown Point, Ind./Dean) and Alex Nisle (Schererville, Ind./Trinity Christian) both led the Oilmen with two hits at the plate in the victory.
